Bring the Heat! 

FLIR's revolutionary FLIR ONE (http://flir.com/flirone) and Lepton (http://www.flir.com/cores/content/?id=66257) products bring thermal imaging to the mass consumer market for the very first time, and we're challenging hackers and makers around the globe to compete for prizes by creating the most innovative, beautiful, and useful software or hardware solutions using FLIR's thermal imaging products imaginable!  If you were a superhero with a thermal imaging sixth sense, what would YOUR super power be?

Challenge Start time: Saturday November 21st at 9am

Challenge End time: Sunday November 22nd at 5pm

 

FLIR ONE is a smartphone accessory that puts thermal imaging into the palm of your hand and LEPTON is the world's smallest thermal imager, which you can use in your own designs. We'll provide everything you need to create your software and/or hardware solution:

   a) Loaner dev platforms (for FLIR ONE and Lepton) for those that don't have them

   b) SDKs and tools

   c) Training

   d) On site 24 hour technical support.  

If you decide to take your solution to market we may also be able to help you with that.  

All participants must register as individuals (not teams) on Eventbrite at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/flirs-bring-the-heat-hacker-maker-challenge-hong-kong-tickets-18892844005.  You will submit your team members as part of your DevPost project submission.

All food and drink provided.  

Total prizes USD $10K cash plus FLIR ONEs. Hourly prize giveaways in addition to that (must be present to win).

Eligibility

Must be at least 18 years old to enter and you must be legally eligible to win to collect a cash prize.  FLIR employees and relatives are not eligible.  Any eligible person, team or entity can join the challenge. Only requirement is that you participate in person during the hacakthon in Hong Kong. In general teams will be formed around the best ideas on the first evening of the hackathon, however, you can also join as a pre-formed team. 

 

Requirements

There are two categories of projects: 1.) Software app and 2.) Hardware app.  Projects/solutions may be based on the FLIR ONE smartphone accessory or the Lepton thermal imaging component.

Each team is required to submit their project to DevPost for consideration no later than 1pm on Sunday Nov 22nd.  Accepted submissions will be given 3 min to pitch and demo their functioning software or hardware solution Sunday afternoon in front of a panel of judges. The format is free, but it is recommended to share a presentation, e.g. PowerPoint or a video combined with a demo (e.g. video) of the solution developed.  We will provide projection equipment and an Apple TV to display your app on your phone screen to the judges.

2. Create an Apple or Android developer account

4. Attend Hacker and Maker Challenge in person

5. Get trained on working with thermal imaging and FLIR's platforms and tools (free!)

7. Create your hardware or software project 

8. Submit your project for consideration online and present it to our panel of judges

Judging Criteria

  • How innovative the app is.
    Includes the degree of innovation demonstrated either in the use of thermal imaging or in the creation of the solution.
  • User experience and design.
    Includes how beautiful and elegant the solution is in terms of how it looks to the user and how easy it is to use.
  • How well it works.
    Includes the extent to which the solution does what it is supposed to do.
  • Potential impact.
    Includes the extent to which the solution could impact users of thermal imaging products in terms of scope and/or scale
